Rebranding – Dumfries & Galloway Gaming Club

Hello everyone! Just thought I would post an announcement about the new rebranding of the club, to the new name of the Dumfries & Galloway Gaming Club, the reasoning behind it and how we plan to make progress moving forward!

As almost everyone reading this blog knows, our mutual gaming group has been internally known as “The Club” since time immemorial. Officially, our name has changed several times over the years – Strategy Gaming Group, Dumfries YMCA Wargamers Club, Dumfries Young Wargaming Club, Dumfries Wargaming Club and now, finally, Dumfries & Galloway Gaming Club.

At a committee meeting last night, it was agreed that the name Dumfries Wargaming Club was confusing and misleading. While we do have wargaming, it is not our sole, or even major focus. We have more roleplayers than wargamers, and so it was decided that Dumfries & Galloway Gaming Club was most appropriate to use as a name for the new club.

What impact will this have? I personally hope that we will have more members interested in gaming but wouldn’t describe themselves as ‘wargamers’ coming along to the club to try things out. I would love to attract new members and it’s my ambition to make this club one of the leading clubs in the Scotland, if not the UK and if not even the whole world.

As always I encourage you all to share any opinions and feedback you may have with us.
